HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE 2021 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL
In our 40 years as an Institute, we’ve never hosted a Sundance Film Festival quite like 2021’s. And that’s thanks in large part to you, our adventurous audiences, who joined us for seven straight days of independent storytelling. Now that we’ve finally gotten caught up on our sleep (and then some), we’ve prepared a quick day-by-day look back at the premieres, the incredible conversations, this year’s interstellar New Frontier platform—the list goes on.

CELEBRATING
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
At the Sundance Institute, we believe that Black artists and Black stories should be celebrated year-round. Coming out of last month’s Festival, we’re excited to recognize all of the 2021 projects helmed by Black directors, and we’re also serving up a new blog series, Black Visionaries, spotlighting arts organizations run by Black creatives.
PS: Don’t forget to check Sundance.org next week for a piece from our Indigenous Program spotlighting Black Indigenous artists.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Artists, academics, even astronauts—the guests at this year’s Festival took our Talks & Events to new heights. We’ve saved most of the conversations on our YouTube channel, so you can catch up on what you missed (or revisit your favorites) whenever you’d like.

SOMETHING TO REMEMBER
US BY
Many months from now, as you pull on your cozy 2021 sweatshirt or pour a nice cup of coffee in your Festival mug, you’ll remember the good times we had together. Buy a souvenir for yourself, and don’t forget that Festival merch also makes a great gift for the cinephiles in your life.

STRAIGHT OUT OF THE SUNDANCE INSTITUTE LABS
In the summer of 1981, we hosted our first-ever filmmaking lab high in the mountains of Utah. Forty years later, thousands of independent projects across a wide range of disciplines have gone through the labs and other Sundance Institute artist programs—and many of them have gone on to premiere in Park City. Here’s a look at some of the Festival projects that have gone through our artist support programs from the 2021 Festival.
