Are you an up-and-coming filmmaker? Ever wanted to get your film in front of Danny Boyle?
This is your chance…
In a world first, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker will not only judge SHUFFLE’S new short film competition, but will also give the winner a unique, exclusive insight into how he works.
There are three categories to SHUFFLE’s inaugural short film competition:
1. Science and Imagination
2. The City
3. Young People (under 25 years of age)
Other prizes include a ‘top secret’ trip to California to be part of the most cutting-edge filmmaking technology, a trip to New York for a once-in-a-lifetime filmmaking opportunity, extensive Panalux equipment hire and more, still to be announced.
SHUFFLE – a film, arts and music festival experience – takes place over five days, from July 31st to August 4th, in London's most urban woodland (Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park). It includes an innovative programme of events centred around Nature, Death and Survival. Together with films and live music, the event hosts a pop-up restaurant, a Banker’s Feast for over 500 guests (who are not actually bankers, but local artists), plus art installations, two outdoor cinemas, guided tours and much, much more.
"SHUFFLE is the most fun anyone can have in an asylum and graveyard in Mile End,” says Danny Boyle. “It's going to be brilliant: outdoor film screenings, live music, a restaurant serving locally foraged food, and a fantastic programme of science events. The point of the festival is to help build a stronger community in East London and campaign for permanently affordable housing in the area, so please do come on by."
SHUFFLE’s artistic director, Kate MacTiernan, adds: "SHUFFLE is about all the things that make London great: the diversity and inventiveness of the citizens. It is an inclusive and creative vision for the heart of urban areas like Mile End, and an alternative to the monoculture known as 'regeneration'.”
“This year, Danny Boyle and SHUFFLE have created a new film prize, to recognise up-and-coming talent as well as celebrate the art of the short film – where concept, idea, character and visual execution must be realised quickly and concisely. We are thrilled that Danny Boyle will judge the competition and offer his expertise to the winner.”
SHUFFLE began in summer 2013 to create awareness for the UK’s first urban Community Land Trust (CLT) (affordable housing scheme) at the former St Clements Hospital. SHUFFLE also secured the space as a cultural centre for Mile End. In 2014, this initiative moves into the surrounding streets, and includes a mile-long hopscotch. Very fitting for Mile End.
Last year’s guests included Jarvis Cocker, Nic Roeg, Martin McDonagh, Julien Temple, Brian Cox, Tim Key, Underworld and Mark Kermode.
A full announcement for this year’s SHUFFLE line-up is due on June 9th.
