THE FOURTH EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET OF FILMS ON ART A MUST FOR FILM PROFESSIONALS
Following the success of its three previous editions, the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) is inviting art professionals and specialists in the fields of films on art and media arts from around the world, to attend to its International Market of Films on Art (MIFA) held from Wednesday, March 26 to Saturday, March 29, 2014.
A unique and major event of international scope, the MIFA is an annual gathering of professionals working in the field of films on art and the media arts industry. Presented in Montreal, a bilingual cultural capital, the MIFA brings together participants from the four corners of the world: Belgium, Brazil, the United States, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Romania, and more.
The Market’s Goals
The MIFA is a unique opportunity for producers, directors, broadcasters and distributors from around the world to meet in a convivial setting that fosters interaction. Its aim is to create partnerships and funding opportunities, such as the development of national and international coproductions.
It strives to provide a unique showcase for Canadian and international professionals, with a high level of expertise in the field of films on art, encouraging the sharing of knowledge specific to this sector, and contributing to the training and development of professionals. The Market also serves to promote and support the development of networks for the broadcasting and distribution of films on art worldwide. The MIFA also allows for the sharing of industry specific knowledge and contributes to the training and improvement of professionals.

MEETING SERVICE
- Accredited professionals can use the personalized appointment service to schedule individual meetings with other specialists attending the event. Staff will be on hand to help them plan their schedule, based on their respective availabilities.
PROFESSSIONALS LOUNGE AND VIDEO LIBRARY
- Providing information in a friendly atmosphere, the Professionals Lounge offers an informal setting for professionals to get together and share ideas.
- A first-rate service for viewing the films selected for the current edition of FIFA, the film library gives accredited professionals an opportunity to view them at individual stations.
PRESENTATION SESSIONS
- This activity provides an outstanding showcase where government, paragovernmental and private institutions, broadcasters, distributors and producers can present their organization and its activities to professionals attending the event, encouraging the dissemination of information and networking.
PITCH SESSIONS FOR PROFESSIONALS
- Intended for all filmmakers and/or producers with a project for a film on art, this activity will allow for direct contact with key players in distribution, broadcasting, and production providing opportunities for support for the completion of projects.
PANEL DISCUSSION – MEETING WITH COMMISSIONING EDITORS AND DECISIONS MAKERS – Trends and Decision Making in Coprodution and sales.
- This Panel Discussion aims to help professionals to lead their projects strategically among investors and potential partners. Selling a project can become a real challenge when it comes to standing out and defending the interests of a personal work. During this meeting led by professionals, you can learn about how to develop the potential of a project and how to present its major assets.
WORKSHOP
- INTRODUCTION TO IMMERSIVE PRODUCTION – 360° - A NEW WAY TO CREATE
Organized by the Immersion Department of the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT], this presentation aims to demystify the principal approaches to spherical image recording, as well as the related post-production, graphic, and musical composition techniques. The presentation will be followed by a short guided tour of the Satosphere theatre and, for those interested, the projection of a representative work.

‘SPEED DATING’ FOR PROFESSIONALS
- ONE-ON-ONE MEETINGS.A unique networking event, in the effective form of a “speed date”, will foster matchmaking between filmmakers, co-producers, broadcasters and distributors in a privileged one-on-one context, in order to generate new common projects.
PANEL DISCUSSION – PROMOTING FILMS ON ART TO THE PRESS AND NEW MEDIAS
- Four experts from the realms of distribution, general print media, and specialized cultural and artistic media will share their strategies and tactics in regard to promoting films on art and media art productions to the press and new media.
ALAN YENTOB – MASTERCLASS – SCREENING #138
- This year, the FIFA is paying tribute to an outstanding figure of British television: Alan Yentob, the producer of the avant-garde series Arena, with over 500 films to its credit. A screening of the film I Thought I Was Taller. A Short History of Mel Brooks will be followed by excerpts from his films with elucidatory comments.
