15th HAVANA FILM FESTIVAL NEW YORK (HFFNY) PRESENTS
THE FILM LINE-UP FOR
THE NEW CUBAN CINEMA: 55 YEARS OF A SHARED DREAM
15th HFFNY will celebrate 55 years of Cuban cinema with an outstanding line-up of 14 films from the island to be featured throughout the festival. Three of these films, El Cow Boy / The Cow Boy, Now! and Historias de la revolución / Stories of the Revolution, will screen at the CUNY GRADUATE CENTER as part of a free program including a Q&A with Cuban Film Archives Director Luciano Castillo and Jerry Carlson, Blinder Center Fellow, co-presented by Blinder Center and Western Hemisphere Studies - CUNY. Simultaneous translations will be available.
The 15th HFFNY will run April 3-11 at the Quad and additional venues around the city. Many of the filmmakers will travel from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, U.S., and Spain to present their films.

Chano Pozo, a world-renowned musician, brought together popular Cuban music and American jazz by joining Dizzy Gillespie's band in 1947. Miraflores, built in 1962 by its inhabitants, was the first effort by the Revolution to eradicate slums. Yolanda is the community's teacher; Mario is a manual worker. Through their love affair, they both learn to address the differences and conflicts that arise as tradition and the unconventional clash. The first feature film after the Revolution was Gutierrez Alea's directorial debut, which re-enacts three important episodes of the armed struggle. One of his least known works, it depicts three stories about the fight against Batista's dictatorship in 1950s Cuba: "El herido," "Rebeldes," and "La batalla de Santa Clara." La primera película filmada después de la revolución fue la ópera prima de Gutiérrez Alea.
