MAVERICK AWARDS, MEDIA LEGACY, RECORD CROWDS, SELLOUTS SHINE AT CINEQUEST FILM FESTIVAL WEEK ONE Half way through, Cinequest Film Festival 2014 reports record crowds of Silicon Valley innovators combined with global youth and artists-all celebrating the power of creativity, innovation and film. Highlights so far: -
Preceding Cinequest Film Festival, Cinequest's inaugural Picture The Possibilities Youth and Leaders summit occurred at Electronic Arts on March 3. Scientists (Dr. Jill Tarter, Seti; Keith Baar, Molecular Biology), Entrepreneurs (Noriko Chen, Capital World; Christina Broadbeck, Rivet Ventures and YouTube; Kara Goldin, Hint; Boris Teksler, Technicolor and Apple), and Creatives (Aaron Loeb, Electronic Arts) met with PTP youth from Beijing, New York, San Diego, Mexico and Silicon Valley to cross-inspire the creating of art and science for our future.

Inaugural recipients of the Media Legacy Award, including Eric Kohn of Indiewire, Harry Knowles of Ain't It Cool News and Kenneth Turan The Los Angeles Times thrilled audiences as Cinequest celebrated their empowerment of artists and audiences.

Cinequest presented Neil Gaiman, novelist, graphic novelist, and screenwriter extraordinaire, with the Maverick Spirit Award in honor of his masterworks and bold creativity. Mr. Gaiman wowed 1,100 people in the lavish California Theatre with inspiring words about creating your dreams.

March 14: Cinequest presents the Kaiser Thrive Award to SlingShot, the intimate and inspirational portrait of renowned inventor and scientist Dean Kamen and his 15-year quest to solve the world's safe water crisis.

March 15: Cinequest proudly honors technologist, actor, and Maverick Innovator Matthew Modine (The Dark Knight Rises, Jobs) with the Maverick Innovator Award as Modine presents his new "appumentary" Full Metal Jacket Diary. Through this lively presentation and conversation with Matthew Modine, fans will revel in a celebration of one of cinema's greatest directors and the power of technology.

March 16: Cinequest 2014 culminates with dynamic energy, excitement and celebration. Join writer/director Joel Surnow (24, The Kennedys) and star Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SVU, True Blood) for a spectacular World Premiere screening of Small Time, also starring Dean Norris (Breaking Bad, Under the Dome), Devon Bostick (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Bridget Moynahan (Blue Bloods ), Kevin Nealon (Weeds, SNL), Garcelle Beauvais (Flight), Xander Berkeley (Taken) and Amaury Nolasco (Transformers).
