Next Chapter:
Looking beyond a year of change

After a year of accelerated transition of business models, innovation and disruption, TV Drama Vision 2021 will shed light on the future of the drama series industry with the precious help of some of the leading global market experts and analysts.

In a dynamic keynote session Guy Bisson, Executive Director at Ampere Analysis, will look at the latest trends in global TV drama, assessing the short and long term impact of an unprecedented year of change. What impact has COVID-19 had on TV production and distribution business? How does studio direct-to-consumer streaming alter the nature of the business? And what are the trends to watch in the coming year and beyond?

Johanna Koljonen, media analyst and author of Göteborg Film Festival’s Nostradamus Report, will return to TV Drama Vision presenting a special Nostradamus TV drama key note.

The 8th Nostradamus Report will be presented on February 4. The report will be available exclusively to all accredited industry participants at Göteborg Film Festival.

Virtual production
“If you need a beach you bring the beach to the studio!”

The pandemic has transformed the drama production landscape, potentially for years to come. Is shooting against a screen the answer?

The role of the producer is in transition and a year of restrictions has called for creative solutions with innovative ways of producing and financing ahead. Virtual production is rapidly transforming production pipelines across the industry. How will these new tools be adopted for TV? What are the challenges and how will it affect the creative outcome? Johanna Koljonen, media analyst and author of the Nostradamus report, in conversation with Kjartan Thor Thordarson, CEO Sagafilm, Patrick Nebout and Henrik Jansson-Schweizer from Dramacorp in development with Whiskey on the Rocks.

Nordic Secrets

Can Public Service TV lift our spirits, make us wiser, give us hope and unite us as a species around a better common future? What can the industry learn about the future from its Nordic past?

The Nordic countries have undergone an extraordinary journey from being among the poorest regions in Europe to becoming among the most peaceful, democratic and stable countries in the world. Danish writer, futurist and philosopher Lene Rachel Anderson takes us on a historical journey where aesthetic education and shared common stories have created the framework of our societies’ sustainability.

As climate change, a global pandemic, economic upheaval and exponential technologies toss our civilization around, do we have the Public Service television that we need? What can the film and TV industry learn from the Nordic past? What is the Nordic countries' secret and what should be the purpose of Public Service TV in a time of great challenges and changes?

Keynote session by Lene Rachel Anderson followed by a conversation with Johanna Koljonen. The session in presented in collaboration with Sweet Chili Enterainment.

Original title: En kunglig affär – berättelsen om Kurt Haijby. Produced by Lena Rehnberg, Stellanova Film for SVT. Written by Bengt Braskered and directed by Lisa James Larsson. Format: 4x45’.

The Possibility of an Island

After a cataclysmic volcanic eruption, Iceland becomes uninhabitable for the next thirty years. With few options available, the International community decides to resettle the entire Icelandic population on Croatian islands to preserve their culture and identity, until they can return to their homeland. The two nations — one a progressive Northern united front, the other a stagnant, stubborn Southern breed — clash over social values, religion, politics and climate, while attempting to find common ground and co–exist in this new society.

Produced by Nebojsa Taraba, Drugi Plan (Croatia) and Hordur Runarsson, Glassriver (Iceland). Written by Mateja Božičević . Format: 8x50’.
