In light of recent pandemic developments, the Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival) has decided on a multi-part festival format in the upcoming edition, with industry elements in March and audience-only screenings in June. Given our experience in 2020 with the sequential FILMFEST MÜNCHEN POP-UP, we can only support this approach and send our colleagues our best wishes for next year‘s implementation of their festival.
At the same time, we see our plans for next year’s edition further strengthened by the developments in Berlin. We have been planning to design FILMFEST MÜNCHEN 2021 as a live festival with innovative cinema and open air elements all around the city of Munich. During our festival period from June 24 to July 3, 2021, we will offer premieres and encounters for the general public in Munich as well as the entire German film industry.
Festival director Diana Iljine: "We as a festival represent summer, sun, Munich – and face-to-face encounters. A central part of the revitalization of the entire German film and culture sector will take place at FILMFEST MUNICH next summer. We are looking forward to this and wish our Berlin colleagues great success with their plannings."
