The festival opens with the Hungarian black comedy Comrade Drakulich by Márk Bodzsár, which will be screened after the Official Opening ceremony held on 8 October at the Neimënster cultural centre. The main theme of the 13th edition “Planting the Future. Our planet and societies at a crossroads” provides a reflection on the unsustainability of our relationship with the environment, and our social and economic models.
The programme features films from 21 countries of the former Eastern bloc screened at major venues in the city of Luxembourg (Cinémathèque, Neimënster, Ciné Utopia, Kinepolis Kirchberg) as well as other towns in the country. Due to the restrictions related to COVID-19, the capacity of the cinemas is substantially reduced. Majority of the films will also be available online– with a limited number of views and geo-blocked for Luxembourg – through “CinEast Online Cinema”, a dedicated VOD platform (cineast.eventive.org).
Also on the programme: four discussions (ciné-debates) on hot topics, four concerts (Opening concert with Canarro, CinEast night with Toldi Mike, Apero Jazz with HeFi Quartet (live soundtrack to The Polish Dancer from 1917), Closing event with Branko Galoić Trio), an extensive photography exhibition“Planting the Future”, a Focus on Hungary, a Cinéfocus on Milcho Manchevski, youth programmes, special themed evenings and more. The festival will welcome around 20 guests (physically or online), including Ivan Ostrochovský, Alexandra Borbély, Milcho Manchevski, Gregor Božić, Margit Lillak and others. For the first time, CinEast will also screen films from Belarus. For more details go to our website www.cineast.lu or consult our presentation.
