The traditional opening night of the Ecrans de Chine 2020 festival will be held on Wednesday September 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Centre Sèvres. We offer as a French Première the very recent The two Lives of Li Ermao. This is a film of rare beauty, produced by the director of the Chinese Van Goghs movie that you loved very much. This new film speaks to us above all about the Chinese youth losing their bearings in a society of unprecedented social violence, embarked on a quest for identity without obvious solutions.
This film comes to us at a time when China's top leaders are as clumsily as our Li Ermao seeking a new route to face an unprecedented crisis in global governance. The country's future had been imagined in the context of a multi-lateral world when the slogan "America first" questioned all acquired certainties. From now on, the question what place should China take, what identity should it assume, and above all how to survive the violence of planetary confrontations, dominates all strategic thinking. The hero of our film, Li Ermao, is in his way not very far from this questioning of identity, because even the genre, determined with the birth of each one of us, is no longer a certainty today… .
Then, starting Friday October 2 at 8 pm we start the week-end screenings at the Cinéma l’Entrepôt with the film Our Time Machine by Yang Sun & S. Leo Chang. It tells us a very beautiful story around the relationship of a father with his son. The latter tries to revive the memory of the first, banned from exercise at the time of the cultural revolution, before Alzheimer's disease takes away everything… ..
Everything will, of course, take place in strict compliance with the health protocol in force.
