Dear Santafeans and film-lovers around the world,
As one of the most selective film festivals in the United States, and a top regional festival, SFiFF remains committed to presenting its 12th edition this coming October.
In 2020, SFiFF will modify the festival with adherence to State and National health and safety guidelines. The well-being of our audience members, filmmakers, and guests is SFiFF's main priority. The Festival will comply with the orders of the governor and implement social-distancing and safety measures at all film screenings, discussions, drive-in films, and events. Select programs may be made available online.
The essence of SFiFF is an in-person experience, since red carpet premieres, Q&A sessions with filmmakers, and fabulous parties can seldom be done at home. The competition, cash prizes, and juried awards, however, can be completed remotely.
Approximately half of SFiFF programming is in the competition section, and so SFiFF will announce official selections as usual. As in past years, SFiFF will award the same cash prizes and trophies. If theaters remain closed through October, in addition to the October Festival, SFiFF will present a selection of festival films once local theaters reopen.
The 12th edition of the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival will take place October 14th-18th, 2020 with a program that represents the year’s best international films, American independents, and documentaries. SFiFF will launch a safety-focused online platform for part of the Festival, offering further accessibility to more distant audiences. SFiFF partners with the State of New Mexico in making the New Mexico Safe Promise. This state-wide pledge of cooperation with businesses, citizens, and organizations for adherence to safely operating, allows New Mexicans to work together toward a safer environment. Monitoring reports from the State of New Mexico and around the country, SFiFF maintains its top priority: the health and well-being of both Festivalgoers and residents of the Santa Fe community. We’d like to also express solidarity with the filmmakers, production companies, and theaters that have been struggling during this uncertainty.
Sincerely, Jacques Paisner, SFiFF Artistic Director |
