The up-and-coming European directors selected for EFP FUTURE FRAMES - Generation NEXT of European Cinema - will be taking part in the Industry Days (KVIFF Eastern Promises) of this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) and an exclusive digital networking and promotion programme, including professional pitching training and meetings with short film programmers, which will run until 8 July, 2020.

An innovation this year is a professional pitching training which will prepare the directors to present themselves and their films during the whole programme, especially in the newly added element of "Meet the Short Film Programmers". The networking event with the leading programmers and directors of short film sections and short film festivals from Italy (Venice Film Festival - Orizzonti Corti, Turin Short Film Market/Enrico Vannucci), Estonia (Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival/Laurence Boyce), Slovakia (Art Film Fest Kosice/Daniel Vadocky), France (Festival Premiers Plans d'Angers/Arnaud Gourmelen; Cannes Critics' Week/Léo Soesanto), Switzerland (Locarno Film Festival/Stefan Ivančić ; Kurzfilmtage Winterthur/John Canciani), The Netherlands (IFFR Rotterdam/Léo Soesanto), Germany (Berlinale Shorts/Anna Henckel-Donnersmarck; Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg/Maike Mia Höhne), Spain (Gijon Film Festival/Alejandro Diaz) and South Korea (Busan International Short Film Festival/Sanghoon Lee).

Another element of the Future Frames' industry programme will give the filmmakers an opportunity to meet key industry representatives and experts from the fields of sales (Cosima Finkbeiner/Beta Cinema), distribution (Paul Ridd/Picture House), funding (Christian Juhl Lemche/Danish Film Institute), festivals (Nikolaj Nikitin/SOFA - School of Film Advancement/Prague International Film Festival) and production (Ada Solomon/Hi Film Productions).

A further highlight in the 10-day programme is set to be an inspirational talk given by the Swedish director Amanda Kernell who will be sharing her experiences and the tools for entering and surviving in the film business. Kernell has made numerous short films, including the award-winning Northern Great Mountain which was the template for her feature film debut Sami Blood. It deals with the racist experiences of a Sami woman in northern Sweden in the 1930s and their effects on the main character’s later life. Her second feature film Charter celebrated its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
