— Flash Meetings

Following the great success of our Flash Meetings, we will be conducting two sessions tomorrow at 11:00 (UTC+2) and 20:00 (UTC+2). Tomorrow is your last opportunity to take part in our Flash Meetings, grab it now!

The Flash Meeting session will consist of a series of 6 video meetings of 8 minutes each, with participants selected for their matching profile. Attending a Flash Meeting is done by logging in to Match&Meet (by Talque) on your desktop (recommended) or on your mobile (iOS and Android).

— Meet & Listen Gabriel Yared

From 19:00 to 19:45 (UTC+2), take part in Meet & Listen Gabriel Yared, an online concert by internationally acclaimed French composer Gabriel Yared and member of the jury of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. 

The online concert will be introduced by Stéphane Lerouge. He has been involved with cinema for the past 40 years and has expressed his talent with major directors such as Jean-Luc Godard, Jean-Jacques Beinex, Robert Altman, Bruno Nuytten, Paul Schraeder, Jean-Jacques Annaud, Costa-Gavras, Michel Ocelot, Xavier Dolan (three scores) and especially Anthony Minghella, in a fruitful collaboration including Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr. Ripley and The English Patient in 1997, which brought him four awards including an Oscar. In 2020 Yared signed the score of Jimmy Keyrouz's Broken Keys, film in the Cannes 2020 Official Selection and the soundtrack of Edoardo Ponti's The Life Ahead, which will mark Sophia Loren's return to the screen.

 
 

— Doc Day

From 16:00 - 17:00 (UTC+2), Congolese filmmaker Dieudo Hamadi will be in discussion with Publication Director of AWOTELE, a PanAfrican Film Critic Magazine Claire Diao on the occasion of the Doc Day.

Dieudo Hamadi's film Downstream to Kinshasa (En route pour le milliard) is the very first film from the Democratic Republic of the Congo ever selected in Cannes and Director Dieudo Hamadi is one of the three documentary filmmakers in the Cannes 2020 Official Selection.

The film tells us about the victims of the Six-Day War in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who, for two decades have been fighting in Kisangani for the recognition of this bloody conflict and are demanding compensation. Tired of unsuccessful pleas, they have finally decided to voice their claims in Kinshasa, after a long journey down the Congo River.

Doc Day is organized in partnership with CNC and L'Œil d'or - Documentary Award in Cannes.

The panel will be held at 18:00 (Cannes Time, UTC+2)

What will be the future of film distribution? Big changes are happening not only because of the pandemic this year, but also with the digital world influencing audiences' habits. We talk to experts from sales, distribution and exhibition about what they are learning from audiences in the unusual year of 2020, and what they think will be the future of film distribution from cinemas to VOD. What will happen to theatrical windows? How are VOD deals changing? What still drives audiences to the cinemas?

 — Pavilion Design Award

On Wednesday 24 June, the 3rd edition of the Pavilion Design Award took place, keeping up with the idea of highlighting the precious and fruitful involvement of all the institutions attending the Marché every year.

The jury this year was composed of Pierre Lescure, President of the Festival de Cannes, Xavier Cailly, CTO of the Communications agency Bronx and Ben Croll, journalist. They gathered in Paris, in the Marché du Film offices, for an Online walkthrough of all the pavilions.

And the winners of this first time digital edition are :

  • Best Pavilion Design Award 2020 goes to Cinema from Spain
  • ‘Coup de coeur’ mention goes to New Zealand Film Commission
  • Jury special mention goes to  SEE NL

Congratulations to all the institutions for the quality of their involvement all along this new adventure!
