Shaping the future of the European audiovisual ecosystem: what role for the European Union?

The panel will be held from 16:00 to 17:30 UTC+2.

The Digital European Forum will offer a unique opportunity to take stock of the present situation, work on a common vision of the audiovisual ecosystem, discuss ways to strengthen the audiovisual ecosystem, and discuss the role of the European Union.

Meet the Streamers: Independent Streamers reply to a crisis

The COVID Pandemic has impacted all aspects of the film and media industry. However, independent digital initiatives have rapidly bloomed across the world not only to deliver precious films to a stranded audience, but also to support local cinemas, distributors and producers through a range of innovative ideas. 

With Filmin (Spain), Kino Now / Kino Marquee (USA) and Draken Film (Sweden), we will discuss the projects they launched to reply to this emergency, how these initiatives affected their business and relationship with the rest of the industry and what's next for them.

Creating the new normal: intersectionality in the film industry

The panel will be held at 17:00 (Cannes Time, UTC+2)

The panel will discuss paths toward an inclusive future for the film industry, where the creativity and business acumen of all its stakeholders is fully realized, without prejudice and bias. Panellists will weigh in on the state of the industry, talk about creative ways to move forward in the rapidly changing cultural and entrepreneurial landscape, and follow up on the progress of the 50/50 by 2020 movement.

◊ Monday 22 June at 4:00pm: Digital European Film Forum

Pierre Lescure (President of the Festival de Cannes), Tatxo Benet (CEO of Mediapro), Thierry Breton (European Commissioner), Marco Chimenz (CEO of Cattleya and European Producers Club Board member), Agnieszka Holland (Film Director and Honorary President of the Federation of European Film Directors), Nico Simon (President of the Europa Cinemas association) and Sabine Verheyen (MEP and Chair of the Culture committee of the European Parliament) meet to discuss the following question: "What might the European Union's role be in shaping the future of the audio-visual ecosystem in Europe?"

◊ Monday 22 June at 5:00pm: Creating the new normal: intersectionality in the film industry

Franklin Leonard (CEO of Black List), Emilia Roig (Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Intersectional Justice) and Anna Serner (CEO of the Swedish Film Institute) tackle the question of building an inclusive future film industry, drawing up an inventory of the industry as it currently stands, and assessing how creative and innovative initiatives can pave the way for change in an ever-shifting cultural landscape. They will also discuss the 'Collectif 50/50' movement. 

◊ Monday 22 June at 6:00pm: Keynote with Alexandre Desplat and John Powell

Discussion with Festival de Cannes 2012 jury member and two-time Academy Award-winning French orchestra conductor and composer Alexandre Desplat, whose latest collaboration with Wes Anderson on The French Dispatch is included in the 2020 Official Selection; and English composer John Powell, who is based in the United States and regularly collaborates with Paul Greengrass, having composed the soundtracks for The Bourne Supremacy (2004), United 93 (2006), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) and Green Zone (2009). He also wrote the original soundtrack for Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018.

◊ Monday 22 June at 7:00pm: Meet & Listen Mark Isham

An online concert from American jazz, electronic music and soundtrack composer Mark Isham, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on Robert Redford's A River Runs Through It (1992)

 

 

— Goes to Cannes

The Goes to Cannes selected feature films in post-production will be pitched during two-hour online screenings on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 June.

Four film festivals and markets will present their curated selections of feature films in post-production at the 8th edition of Goes to Cannes.

On Monday 22, discover curated selections of projects  from Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) from 10:00-12:00 (UTC+2); and New Horizons International Film Festival from 12:00-14:00 (UTC+2).

Professionals who will attend the screenings will be able to organize meetings with project holders during the Goes to Cannes Speed Meetings on Wednesday 24 from 9:00 to 21:00 (UTC+2). Register here.

— Spot the Composer


 

From Monday 22 to Friday 26, Spot the Composer will provide music lovers and industry professionals with opportunities to meet for potential collaborations or to enjoy online concerts from world-renowned composers.

From from 9:00 to 21:00 (UTC+2) producers and feature film directors looking for original music for their projects will meet 40 film music composers and/or artistic agents via our Spot the Composer 20-minute 1:1 speed meetings.

In discussion with Alexandre Desplat and John Powell ⁠Keynote will be held from 18:00 to 19:00 (UTC+2). Composer, orchestrator and conductor, two-time Academy Award winner, eleven-time Academy Award Nominee, Alexandre Desplat with over one hundred scores and numerous awards to his credit is the regular composer of numerous filmmakers such as Jacques Audiard, Wes Anderson, Guillermo del Toro, Terrence Malick and Stephen Frears. Variety journalist and author Jon Burlingame will host the keynote.

From 19:00 to 19:45 (UTC+2), take part in Meet & Listen Mark Isham, an online concert introduced by Jon Burlingame. Electronic music innovator, jazz artist and prolific film composer. Mark Isham’s ability to create unforgettable melodies have earned him accolades including Grammy and Emmy awards, and Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. Isham’s inimitable musical voice is evident in his memorable scores for award-winning features including the Oscar-winning Crash and A River Runs Through It (Oscar Nomination) along with Golden Globe winning Bobby, and The Black Dahlia.
