"Working with Sally Potter means a surprise every day," said Christopher Sheppard at the end of the animated press conference for her newest film The Roads Not Taken, which premiered in competition at Berlinale on February 26, 2020. Sheppard has produced eight of Sally Potter's feature films since their first collaboration on Orlando in 1992. For those of us familiar with Potter's films, Sheppard's statement shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Her work is never boring, rarely mainstream or geared towards the masses, always fearless and often a big departure from her previous project(s) and sometimes misunderstood by English-language critics.
Unfortunately, I can't speak all the languages so it's hard for me to say how critics not writing in English or German interpret or review her work. I'd be curious to see what a
film critic like CA Lejeune (Caroline Alice), whose film criticisms graced the pages of The Guardian from 1922 to 1928 and then the pages of The Observer until she retired in 1960, would write about Potter's films. If more top female critics were reviewing her work would her films have higher ratings on some of the most visited film review sites? Positive film reviews can make a film, helping it get a wide release and international distribution. Negative reviews can break a film, relegating it in the past to a direct-to-DVD (or VHS) release. Who exactly has been writing the majority of the most-read reviews of Sally Potter's films? I'm curious

The Woody Allen Memoir... We Need the Dregs?
by Quendrith Johnson, Los Angeles Correspondent
Who writes a memoir in defense of marrying their step-daughter? You guessed it: Woody Allen. And with his new memoir - that was axed by Hachette and brought back to life elsewhere - we all get to wrestle with this Shakespearean dilemma…
To buy, or not to buy? Whether ’tis nobler to read the slings and arrows pointed at Mia, or to take up arms against “Apropos of Nothing” and fling it against the wall.
Yes, that is bad Shakespeare from Hamlet Act 3, Scene 1, often dubbed “the nunnery scene” which, of course, Hachette employees were likely not thinking about during the standing ovation when Allen’s galleys were tossed in the trash, but hey.
Arcade published it, so what can you do except decide for yourself whether to purchase the bête noire of books? Arcade, a division of Skyhorse, lists the following three lead-off books on its website - just follow along here for Allenseque irony: “Raphael: Painter in Rome,” “Love Behind Bars: The Memoir of An American Prisoner’s Wife,” and the topper “Hitler: The Memoir of a Nazi Insider Who Turned Against The Führer.”
Can you script something better than that?
On Woody Allen’s website, he leads with this quote: “If you’re not failing every now and again, it’s a sign you’re not doing anything very innovative.”

While the coronavirus, or COVID-19, updates rage from crowned heads of EU to uncrowned rank and file New Yorkers, here's an apocalytpic "existential thriller" to live for...
Curated by Screenmancer Staff NEW YORK, NY(3/25/20): NEON announced today that they have acquired worldwide rights to Amy Seimetz’s apocalyptic existential thriller SHE DIES TOMORROW, an official selection of the 2020 SXSW Film Festival. Inadvertently prescient and blazingly original, the film was one of the most buzzed-about titles coming out of this year’s festival-that-never-was. SHE DIES TOMORROW stars Seimetz’s frequent collaborator Kate Lyn Sheil (SUN DON’T SHINE) as Amy, a woman ravaged by the notion that she is going to die tomorrow which sends her down a dizzying emotional spiral. When Amy’s skeptical friend Jane (Jane Adams, HAPPINESS) discovers Amy’s feeling of imminent death to be contagious, they both begin bizarre journeys through what might be the last day of their lives. In equal measures a genre film, a dark comedy, and surrealist mind trip, SHE DIES TOMORROW defies definition and is the unique vision of Seimetz (SUN DON’T SHINE, “The Girlfriend Experience”)....

THE MYSTERY OF A BURYAT LAMA», directed by Elena Demidova
![]()
The documentary film «THE MYSTERY OF A BURYAT LAMA», directed by Elena Demidova, tells a story of one of the most famous lamas, Pandido Khambo Lama Dashi Dorzho Itigelov. His body is recognized as one of the sacred Buddhist objects of Russia and is being kept in the Ivolginsky Datsan. The Buddhist monks approach him as a living person.
Itigelov was born in 1852 and began his religious education at the age of sixteen years. In 1911, he was appointed the twelfth Pandido Khambo Lama as the Head of Russian Buryat Buddhists. Between 1913 and 1917, Itigelov was prominent in the spiritual life of Russian Empire. He took part in the Tercentenary celebrations of the House Romanov and opened first Buddhist temple in St. Petersburg. During First World War Itigelov presided over the society of "Buryat brothers", an organization helping the Russian army. After October Revolution, Itigelov resigned as head of the Buddhists. In 1927, aged seventy-five years, he asked other lamas to begin meditation ceremonies and funeral rites, since he said he was about to die. Itigelov left a testament asking to be buried as he was at the time of his death, sitting in lotus posture. On September 11, 2002, Itigelov's body was eventually exhumed in the presence of the leaders of the Buddhist Traditional Sangha of Russia and transferred to Ivolginsky Datsan.

An eye-opening documentary, The Creepy Line reveals the stunning degree to which society is manipulated by Google and Facebook and blows the lid off the remarkably subtle – hence powerful – manner in which they do it.
The Creepy Line is a title culled from the words of former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, when during a 2010 interview he explained Google’s code of conduct: “The Google policy on a lot of things is to get right up to the creepy line and not cross it.”
However, as Dr. Robert Epstein explains in the film, “Google crosses the creepy line every day”.
Offering first-hand accounts, scientific experiments and detailed analysis, The Creepy Line examines what is at risk when these two tech titans have free reign to utilize the public’s most private and personal data to manipulate society.
There is no question that the “creepy line” is getting ever-creepier, and that the tech giants have crossed it.
