As a host organization at AIR Besiendershuis, Go Short - International Short Film Festival Nijmegen invites the Finnish filmmakers Hannes Vartiainen and Pekka Veikkolainen to work in Nijmegen for two months as Artists in Residence. From February till April they will reside in the Besiendershuis, a historic building situated on the quay of the Waal river.
Artist In Residence Besiendershuis
The Besiendershuis annually asks four organisations from Nijmegen to be a host for Artist in Residence Besiendershuis. In this period the Artist in Residence works closely with the host organisation and other people and artists from Nijmegen. The residence of Hannes & Pekka will start in February and will result in a final presentation at Go Short - International Short Film Festival Nijmegen 2014.
Hannes Vartiainen & Pekka Veikkolainen
Hannes Vartiainen (1980) began as a filmmaker, and Pekka Veikkolainen (1982) as an animator and illustrator. In 2008, they combined their talents to work together on new and exciting ways of filmmaking. The duo combines various digital techniques with, amongst others, stop-motion and x-ray scans. Their short films and documentaries have a unique style and feel, that manages to be experimental and accessible at the same time. They take the audience on an adventurous audiovisual trip. Their films The Death of an Insect (2010) and Gates of Life (2012) were selected for the European Competition at two editions of Go Short. The Death of an Insect also received a special jury mention in the category art film at Go Short 2011.
Go Short – International Short Film Festival Nijmegen is the Dutch festival for short film. For five days, over 300 short films are screened in and around LUX in Nijmegen. Besides screenings there are exhibitions, workshops, performances, parties and more. The festival takes place from April 9th till April 13th 2014.
