Seattle Shorts Film Festival may feature short films, but big things are in the works for the sixth year. This year the festival will be three days, Friday November 11th to Sunday the 13th, with new program elements. Seattle Shorts once again received over 1,000 films from Pacific Northwest, national, and international filmmakers. Seattle audiences should be ready to watch a wide variety of films this year, from music videos to shorts to even a full feature film.
The 2016 festival will open with screening Before I Disappear, a feature-length adaptation of director Shawn Christensen’s 2012 Oscar-winning short film, Curfew. Seattle Shorts is excited to announce special guests Fatima Ptacek, lead actress and voice of Dora the Explorer, and producer Brendan Hubbard. This year Seattle Shorts will also screen for the first time music videos to provide Seattleites with diverse film categories.
Seattle Shorts will be hosting two panels for the curious and aspiring individuals who are interested in the film industry. The Navigating the Film Festival Circuit panel would be the opportune time for filmmakers to get the ins and outs of film festivals. The Breaking into the Business: Young Actors panel will be perfect for those who are interested in getting their start in the film industry. Lastly, for festival attendees and filmmakers can celebrate another year the Seattle Shorts Film Festival bringing Seattle film lovers the very best short films from around the globe at the Dance Party on Saturday night.
The 49 short film lineup will make the audience experience all types of emotions. The thriller Burned, starring Beau Knapp (Southpaw) and Maika Monroe (The 5th Wave), will have the audience on the edge of their seats. While Lemonade Mafia starring Marsai Martin (Blackish) will make the audience break out in laughter.
Seattle Shorts takes pride in showcasing the incredible local talent. Michelle a 1960s period film focuses on the struggle to be yourself and The Cost of Things starring David S. Hogan and Angela DiMarco, are few of many local films that will be screened this year.
Piece of Cake and Creased are just a couple of films that will be screened at the festival this year that have creatively touched on real-world issues; such as racism and incurable diseases. And speaking of real-world, documentaries like Her & Me will be shown. Frontman starring Kristoffer Polaha (Where Hope Grows) playing a rock star who is losing his hearing, will kick off the music video program. Seattle Shorts enjoys screening work of students from around the world and are excited Lucky Strike and other student films will be shown. Randy and many other films at this years festival will warm the hearts of audience.
