Nakamura Yoshihiro returns to the FEFF screen with a beautiful ghost story, “The Inerasable”
UDINE – The beautiful ghost story The Inerasable opens a new chapter in the glorious J-Horror genre which brings back one of the most visionary and prolific directors (or auteurs) of Japanese cinema to the screens of the Far East Film Festival in Udine: Nakamura Yoshihiro! Of course, it is still too early to reveal the eighteenth line-up of the FEFF (from the 22nd to the 30th of April), but The Inerasable(as the European Premiere) represents an exciting preview. The Udine preview will be publicized in perfect sync with the one in Tokyo, where the film's release in Japan has been announced by Shochiku for January 30th.
An old friend of the FEFF (over the years, we can remember such titles as The Glorious Team Batista, Fish Story, Golden Slumber, The Triumphant General Rouge, up to the more recent See You Tomorrow, Everyone and The Snow White Murder Case), Nakamura - also scriptwriter of the brilliant horror film Dark Water directed by Nakata Hideo - this time adapts Ono Fuyumi’s best- selling horror novel “Zange” for the screen.
The Inerasable marks the return of Nakamura to the horror genre, after ten years. It starts with a letter received by a novelist, a big name in the horror genre, revealing that another woman is investigating an unusual series of suicides. What lies behind these deaths? And how are these deaths linked to the author’s activities? The enigma deepens until the truth comes out, little by little...
The sixty titles for # FEFF18 (official hashtag) will be chosen, as always, from the best of recent films (blockbusters, cult movies, outsiders, but also Asian art films) and once again, the program will feature a rich assortment of associated events (exhibitions, conferences and meetings).
