The Sixth DOC NYC Festival Opening Night U.S. Premiere of MISS SHARON JONES! directed by Barbara Kopple, Lifetime Achievement recipient, 2015 DOC NYC, was held at SVA theater, New York, Thursday, November 12, 2015. A special Q&A discussion immediately followed with director Kopple, singer Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings band moderated by artistic director Thom Powers, DOC NYC. Presented by executive director Raphaela Neihausen, artistic director Thom Powers, director of programming Basil Tsiokos, DOC NYC, and senior vice president/general manager John, Vanco, IFC Center, the opening night premiere gala reception was held at Lugo Cucina Italiana, New York.
Red carpet arrivals included two-time Award winning filmmaker Barbara Kopple, producer David Cassidy, Grammy Award nominee Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings (David Guy, Starr Duncan-Lowe, Saundra Williams, Binky Griptite, Neal Sugarman, Fernando Velez) nutritionist Megan Holken, acting commissioner Luis Castro, Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, and celebrity guests.
