ODESSA OIFF announces 2013 competition line-up

ODESSA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (July 12 - 20, 2013) ANNOUNCES COMPETITION PROGRAMS

11 film directors from USA, UK, Israel, Georgia, Italy, Poland, Germany, Romania, France, India, Russia and Ukraine will compete in International Program for the OIFF Grand Prix – 'The Golden Duke'. Four features, including much-anticipated biopic ‘Parajanov’, and twelve short films are nominated for the Ukrainian National Film Award.

«In the selection process the OIFF program committee reviewed around 1000 films, many of them at international film festivals in Cannes, Berlin and Venice as well as film forums in Sofia, Warsaw, Locarno, Moscow, Plzen, Rotterdam and others. There were 650 film entries received, among which 182 from Ukraine» - told OIFF President Victoria Tigipko at the press-conference of the 4th Odessa International Film Festival.

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OIFF 2013
11 films were selected for the OIFF International Competition. The majority of the film directors are debutants or emerging filmmakers, nevertheless, they already collaborate with the leading actors of Europe, USA and Asia.

The winner of the OIFF Grand Prix – 'The Golden Duke' for the best film of the International Competition will be awarded by tradition by audience. The International Jury will define the winners in the following categories: 'The Best Film', 'The Best Director' and 'The Best Actor'. The Jury consists of German actress Franziska Petri (‘Betrayal’); British producer of Harry Potter franchise TanyaSeghatchian (UK); film director, actress and teacher Nana Jorjadze (Georgia / Germany / Russia); as well as one of the most successful Ukrainian writers, Andrey Kurkov. Head of the International Competition Jury is the Ukrainian film producer Alexander Rodnyansky. The selected films are

UKRAINIAN NATIONAL FILM AWARD OIFF 2013
The Jury of the Ukrainian National Film Award consists of film director, film critic and curator of the social-cinema projects Mark Cousins (UK); co-founder of the world's leading short film festival at Clermont-Ferrand Georges Bollon (France); Georgian producer Tamara Tatishvili; as well as Ukrainian film score composer Vadim Khrapachyov. Nominees in the feature section are:

DELIRIUM director Ihor Podolchak, Ukraine, Czech Republic, 2012, 96 min

I DON'T WANNA DIE director Alisa Pavlovskaya, Ukraine, Russia, 2013, 70 min

PARADJANOV co-directors Serge Avedikian, Olena Fetisova, Ukraine, France, Armenia, Georgia, 2013, 95 min


12 films compete in the shorts section of the Ukrainian National Film Award – including award-winning 'Nuclear Waste' by Myroslav Slaboshpytskyy (Silver Leopard at Locarno IFF, Grand-Prix at Kinoshok IFF); ‘Nympho’ by Oleg Borshchevskyi – Ukrainian probe at erotic movie; documentaries -independent project by Olexandr Techynskyy ‘Sirs and Misters’ and ‘Junk Edit’ by Dmytro Gluhenky. Odessa International Film Festival (OIFF) was founded in 2010 and is supported by the Ukrainian State Film Agency, Odessa Regional State Administration and Odessa Mayor’s Office. The Festival is held under the patronage of the Odessa Region Governor Eduard Matviychuk.
